Background: The client needed an addition to their existing home to provide a party space and a new master bedroom suite. The neighborhood and our client’s home are standard center hall colonial style houses built as a new development. The site is at the end of a cul de sac.
The Solution: We turn the timetable around. Utilizing a traditional vocabulary this story goes that the development was built on the property of an older family; perhaps a farmer in the late 19th century. This cottage is what remains of that estate and the development was built around it. The addition conveys the permanence of the original.
